Whenever I am doing a unit plan, I used to get held up at the GRASPS portion of the unit plan because I was unsure of what to say. But with the help of the different handouts that I have been given throughout my education career, I have held on to this handout specifically to help with my unit plans. 7 Generations: A Plains Cree Saga is a graphic novel written in 2010 by David Alexander Robertson. This novel is based off a family, whose family story goes back to the early 1800s. From the graphic novel, we learn a lot about what the importance of family & relationships, storytelling, reconciliation, and forgiveness. The graphic novel also talks about the intergenerational affects that many people still with from residential schools. Residential schools are where man students have come in contact with physical and mental abuse; ultimately leading to future substance, physical, and mental abuse.                 I came to choose this story because I was able to read one part of the story in another class that I had taken earlier in the year, and when I saw that this was the continuation of that story, I wanted to know the rest of the story. On Monday, May 13, 2019 we were able to do a writing exercise. For this writing exercise we were given a topic to think about, and this topic was the word, "HOME." For this writing exercise we where asked to close our eyes and think about what home meant to us. Once we had an idea flowing about what home meant to us, we were asked about the 5 W's and the 1 H: who, what, when, where, why, and how. My personal story about HOME   The first thing I thought about when I thought about home, was my grandparent's cabin in Greenwater Lake, SK. Every one of my aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all the dogs we owned were there. Me: My name is Jacob Genaille-Dustyhorn. I was born on July 20th 1996. I am currently finishing my third year of the Indian Teacher Education Program, and going into my fourth year with Social Studies as my major, and English as my minor. Myself: Growing up I was able to make school one of my greatest priorities, and one day I decided that I would like to see changes in the schooling systems, which is what encouraged me to apply for the Indian Teacher Education Program. When I was in elementary school, I had a couple of mentors that made a huge impact on my life as a young man. Day 1: Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 was the first class of ECUR 379. We learned about a variety of different ways help keep students engaged in different types of lessons which could be used in many different types of classes. One way to keep a student engaged was the "Monkey See, Monkey do" technique. When the teacher asks the students to do something such as a silent reading period, quick write, or simply telling them about their weekend, as the teacher of the classroom, the teacher should whatever they asked the students to do. While listening about this technique, it brought up a memory of when I was in high school. When we were asked to read silently every Tuesday, some of the teachers would read, and the class was usually quiet. But when a teacher would not read, the class was not quiet.
